Your ultimate goals can be achieved if you develop at least 5 attributes.

* Thick Skin: you cannot be easily offended or hurt if you want to be successful. There will always be people who are jealous or envious or out to bring someone else down-you must develop a way to see past that and let it roll off your back, like "water off a duck's back."

If you let any criticism "roll off the duck's back" then you will attain success. Duck's feathers act like a water repellant--they dispel moisture because they are packed very tightly together. If you want to be successful, you're going to have some negative reviews---just treat them like the water on a duck--let it roll off--you'll be a lot better off for it.

* Follow the leader: Learn to obey someone who knows how to lead. If you want to be a good leader, then learn to be a good follower first. Being loyal to a good leader is one of the steps to being successful.

Once you have learned how to obey and to follow directions, you can lead others and understand what commands and orders do for an organization and an individual. Consider this: 175 of the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are former US Marines, and 27 US Presidents served in the military.

* Being courageous: Home of the Brave--but hopefully --home of the courageous too. There are brave people all over but it takes moral fortitude to be courageous. This means making the right decision even when faced with adversity.

Courageous people have strong convictions. They aren't afraid to follow through with a tough decision--it's that action they take that will make you get the most out of life. No one is ever sorry for having a strong conviction to do the right thing.

* Do not tolerate certain things: Sounds like this is contrary to the article. But--there are many things that we should not tolerate. Injustice, abuse, anything immoral or unethical. Be tolerant of a lot but not these kinds of things. If you can be that way--you'll find it much easier to relate to others and show them how to live also.

* A Good Sense of Humour: The road we travel is filled with potholes and obstacles. You may sometimes find yourself up against one of them. If you get knocked for a loop, try to get back up and laugh it off--You'll feel much better in the long run. You can't move past something if you continually dwell on it--and you'll be very bitter and angry. This way you'll be much happier on your way to the top.
