People often seek my advice, looking for ways to improve the economies of poorer areas and develop business solutions that benefit the entire community. Yet for all their good intentions, they rarely understand the difference between a job and a business.
If you have a business, the opportunities for profit are only limited by your imagination. However, the profits from a job are limited, even restricted. You exchange your precious time for a specified amount of money (usually best described as "never enough"). It's easy to see the benefits of attracting business to a community, rather than simply seeking jobs.
If you want to transform a community's economy, teach them to think like entrepreneurs. Show them how they can find a niche for their business, discover the needs of their potential customers, and meet those needs - all while making amazing profits with their business.
Here's where you come in. You can teach them to think like entrepreneurs.
Well, not right away. I said start with your community. Start by helping those in your niche. When your customers succeed, you succeed wildly. From there, spread the word to others: friends, family, members of your church then keep going until you've finally spread the word to the whole town.
Of course, this will take a while, but in the mean time offer free courses to your church and even to your community. Tell them that the reason you do all this is because Jesus Christ is not just Lord of your heart; He is Lord of your business as well and He is Lord of their business! He owns it all!
Search out special-interest groups on the internet, as this will help you find internet niche markets. Use the tools on www.surveymonkey.com to create and distribute a survey to help you discover what customers in each group really want. Using that information, look for affiliate programs associated with that niche.
You will find more products to fill that need than you can shake a stick at! Put up a web page with those products and add some "buy it" buttons, invite that group to your web site and then collect their emails so you can tell them more about their niche every week.
Will they mind getting your emails? Of course not! They are a part of a group that has a specific interest and you are telling them about that interest!
