There are many people and things in life that never get the credit nor the applause they deserve. For example, where would society be without the person who invented bathroom tissue? Catalogs just do not remind one of a comfortable and effective experience when it comes to those necessary times. What about the person who invented those little rubber wedges that keep doors from closing by themselves. I mean, come on, how many awards have you heard of that honored that much-deserving individual? So it is with diaper bags. History will never be able to fully record nor recite the accolades that are due to this faithful icon of humanity.
What would happen if tomorrow all of the diaper bags were gone? How would mother carry the little jars filled with baby food and the seventeen diapers that will be needed before the shopping trip is over? What would become of the spoons, the little squeak toys, the powder and the wipes? They would have to be stuffed in pockets and purses and that just wouldn't look right. Just as people feel naked when they are not dressed as they should be for an event, the parent feels naked when the diaper bag is missing.
It's time for diaper bags to gain their rightful place in society at large. No one will ever know the greatness of societal contribution this mostly unseen companion has made. Yes, diaper bags have been around for centuries, silently doing their job, never complaining, never revolting. But what about tomorrow? With everything else in society changing, what happens if this silent friend decides it's time for a change?
To give diaper bags their full credit, there should be a diaper bag abuse hotline, just for starters. A syndicated column called "Dear Baggy" could answer all of the questions that have gone unanswered for so long. No longer would diaper bags just continue to carry bottles, diapers, wipes, clothes, first-aid kits, bibs, plastic bags, fingernail clippers, rags, plastic ware and jumper cables in complacent silence. They will have the voice they have so richly deserved.
Now that all of this has been thrust into the open, there is reason for hope for all of the diaper bags that have lost faith along the way. There can be renewed vision of a prosperous future. A new light for a better and brighter path has finally dawned upon the world of diaper bags.
