For years I suffered pain and embarrassment from repeatedly catching a yeast infection due to bacterial vaginosis. Whether you call it Candidiasis, Thrush or Candida Albicans, a yeast infection is a yeast infection and it can cause a lot of discomfort and irritation if you are in the midst of suffering through an outbreak. As a lady who repeatedly caught yeast infections I personally know the pain, embarrassment and frustration that come with a smelly, itchy condition in the vaginal region. Fortunately, I was able to discover several home remedies for thrush that relieved all of the painful symptoms.

Why use natural or home based methods to treat your yeast infection? True, there are many over the counter medications that can be effective in treating thrush but for some reason many of them never really seemed to help my condition. Even after seeing a doctor and following their advice I still felt that I could do something more to rid myself of this problem safely and easily, hence the home treatments.

Here are a few things I discovered on how to properly threat thrush with a home remedy:

1 - First, at the onset of an outbreak I always made sure I gently cleaned the affected are using nothing but plain water. I made sure to avoid soaps, bath and shower gels because they always seemed to cause my irritation to flare up even more.

2 - I always avoided having sex in order to prevent passing the infection back and forth between my partner. Many people don't know this but men can catch a yeast infection also and it is usually passed to them through sexual intercourse with an infected woman. If for some reason you can't seem to avoid having sex and plan to use protection you will need to avoid using spermicidal creams and lubricants because they actually make the condition worse.

3 - The clothing I wore and how I wore it also played a part in the proliferation of my infections. For example, if I wore synthetic fibers it would cause further irritation when it rubbed against my infection. I also started wearing looser fitting clothing which helped dramatically in cutting down the number of yeast infections I suffered.

4 - For alternative treatments I had great success with Melaleuca Oil which can be found at alternative medicine and herb stores. Aloe Vera gel also worked well at relieving my itchiness and irritation when applied to the affected area.

5 - Plain unsweetened yogurt helped combat the inflammation but it had to be natural yogurt without sugar. Items that contained an abundance of sugar caused the growth of Candida Albicans.

6 - Another discovery I made during my time as a repeated suffer of yeast infections and thrush is that food was one of the main contributors to my symptoms. Dried fruits, dairy products, products with yeasts, mushrooms, monosodium glutamate and meat all served as triggers to my infections. By following a restricted diet I was able to determine the particular foods that triggered my thrush.

During the course of my own outbreaks and subsequent treatments I actually took it upon myself to write about the remedies that worked in a guide that I prepared in order to spare other women from going through the frustrations I endured with my own Candida and bacterial vaginosis. The reality is, as a woman you don't have to continue to suffer from the embarrassment and pain associated with this miserable condition.
