First you have to check if the site is indexed. For Google you can check this in Google Webmaster Tools. If you find that it is not indexed you can ask for reconsideration. If you comply with the webmaster guidelines your site will be indexed in a week or two. But if you find that the site is indexed but not present in search results then the reason may be duplicate or similar content. It is very likely that you have copied the text or some phrases from other pages. For the first check you can use Copyscaspe website to find any pages with similar text. If you find at least one page with duplicate text or similar phrases then you know what the most likely reason for ranking problem is. If the test is negative then there may still be similar content which was detected by Google.
In any case the solution is very simple. For each page that is not ranked according to expectations you should create new content. This means discarding the old text and writing a new one. Make sure you don't use any sentences from other pages. Try to write few paragraphs with your own words. If the reason for low ranking was the content you will now have an opportunity to return to the search results. Wait for week or two and regularly check positions. In most cases you will be able to see some major change in ranking. Repeat this process for all pages that do not rank well. If you see no change then it is very likely that there was nothing wrong with the old content. In any case, one of the best SEO methods is unique quality content. Try to minimize phrases from other pages and write your own description, review or article.
