What does your website say about you? Does it say \"I invite you to search more and I value you\" or \"I put this up just do get some sales but don\'t really care\"? Your designs, images and construction will exhibit a message whether you are aware or not. Every element plays a role in connecting or disconnecting with your visitors. The faster you can acquire that connection, the greater chance they will remain on your site and possibly convert to a lead or sale.

What does your website say about you? Does it say "I invite you to search more and I value you" or "I put this up just do get some sales but don't really care"? Your designs, images and construction will exhibit a message whether you are aware or not. Every element plays a role in connecting or disconnecting with your visitors. The faster you can acquire that connection, the greater chance they will remain on your site and possibly convert to a lead or sale.

Images

Include any images displaying your personal and family life and how you interact apart from your business. Show your visitors you are just like them and want the same things out of life. Also, portray images depicting the benefits of what you are offering. If you are in the home based business arena, you should display vacation or recreational photos displaying your enjoyment of a life of financial freedom.

Try not to clutter your page with these images. One or two for the home page will suffice. You will feel enthusiastic when you first start building your website but watch out for an over-zealous attitude. Step out of yourself and realize your visitors do not know you and your family. The images should enhance your message not replace it. If you want to show more images, create a specific page solely for that purpose. This is also a very effective connection strategy.

Construction

If it takes a user over three to four clicks to get their questions answered they will leave your site. Your site should flow and each topic should gradually lead to the next. You can accomplish this with a visible eye-catching navigation menu. Wherever the user needs to go, they should have access to in under two seconds. If they need to look for what they are thinking, you will lose them. Their time is precious and they have thousands of other competitors waiting to take their business.

Design

Keep your design simple and concise. If the first thing a user notices is a beautiful design, you are distracting them from their purpose for arriving at your site.

You are not trying to win a design contest; you are trying to connect and gain sales. Every element of your website should support your message not overtake it. Show your site to people you trust and ask them what is the first thing they notice and also what they feel at an emotional level. You want answers that describe an emotional connection and an easy to use interface. Anything else, such as beautiful site or great design may actually hurt you in the long run. As long as you keep your visitor's agenda in mind, you will stay successful with your website.
