Creating small niche sites that target a small audience tends to be one of the most profitable ways of creating websites these days. Having a targeted audience means you will get very targeted ads, which will of course increase your CTR, and possibly even your earnings per click. Once you learn how to create these niche sites and learn how to get them set up correctly, one very important aspect of your site to consider is your template.

In case there are newbie website creators reading this, your template is the design of your site, and how it looks to each person who visits it. The template is very important, since it can strongly impact the amount of ad clicks you get with AdSense or other PPC programs. If you learn how to create effective templates that maximize your click through rate, then you may be able to increase your earnings by as much as 100%, maybe even 200%.

The most important thing to keep in mind when creating your template is that if you are creating niche sites for the main purpose of running AdSense on them, then you do not want a flashy, complicated template. It has been extensively tested that when your template is boring and unattractive, people will be more inclined to look at your ads, and hopefully click on them. So in this case, it may be beneficial to have a very ugly template, versus a flashy one with pretty colors.

The reasoning behind this is that when a visitor views your page, if you have a header that stands out with bright colors for example, then they may be inclined to look at it which removes their attention from your ads. The goal for any niche AdSense site is of course for your visitors to click ads as much as possible, so the best way of going about this is trying to emphasize your ads more than the actual content on your page.

A lot of this process is thinking psychologically. Imagine that you are a visitor to your own website, what would you look at first? And what part of the page really catches your attention? If the AdSense ads seem to draw your gaze, then you may have a template that is optimized for clicks. All this takes is some practice and testing. Remember to change your template frequently so you can find a sweet spot for your CTR.
