First step is the domain name.
The domain name is like the address for your site. In order to visit, everyone must go to your domain name. Make sure that you get a name that is easy to remember and easy to spell, otherwise you are keeping people from finding you. So basic things like spelling are important if you want people to find your site.
The second step is to get Web Hosting.
Web hosting is where the files are kept that make up your website. A website is basically files that people open up and look at when they browse online. By keeping your files on a web host, you can keep your website secure and open 24 hours a day. There are options of expensive hosting, but in general unless you have special needs or a specific website that needs more security or something like that, you shouldn't pay more than $10 per month and you should get unlimited everything. There is no reason not to, especially when you can get this at Hostgator.com or Bluehost.com for cheaper than $10 per month.
The third step is to upload files to your site.
The most basic form of doing this is through an FTP client such as Filezilla or SmartFTP. There are a ton of different programs that do this, but those things are the best free ones. If you do it that way, you can create and upload each file, each page, and each plug-in to your site by hand. But there is a much better way to manage your files. Wordpress (.org not.com) is the number one content management software that is free and easy to use. The simple layout to the admin panel easily allows anyone to change pages, or update a blog, add themes which change the look or plug-ins that can add features to any website. Wordpress.org has downloadable free software that can be uploaded to your website and used for any type of site that you are looking for.
These of course are not the only ways to create a website, but it is definitely the easiest way that I have found which is both dynamic and simple at the same time.
