There are many individuals out there who claim to show you how to start a website for profit. But the fact is that so many of these individuals have never done so themselves. This article demonstrates a path to profitability for anyone who wants to start a website.

Do you want to start a website for profit? If you do you are not alone. There are literally billions of pages on the world wide web and that number is growing by millions everyday. So, let's take a look at the steps that you have to take in order to make money with a website.

The first thing you need to decide is what you want your website to be about. This is called your niche. There are as many niches as there are people in the US, so you have some latitude here. However, you will want to choose a niche that has the ability to profitable and that is not saturated with existing websites. This is more of an art than a science and you may choose incorrectly the first couple of times. That is okay. You need to realize that everyone (or nearly everyone) who makes a living online operates more than one website. In the beginning not every stone that you overturn will be a diamond.

The next thing that you need to decide is what format your website will take. Here you have options. I would recommend, especially if you are just starting out, that you opt for a wordpress blog. A blog is an easy to update journal that doesn't require any knowledge of programming to operate. Additionally, wordpress, which is the best blogging platform, is a free software.

Once you have a topic and a form for your site, you need to think about the most important element of any website, the visitors. To be successful online you need to draw attract. You do need a ton of it, especially if you own many sites, but you need a consistent source of targeted traffic. Targeted traffic is traffic that is interested in the information or service that you provide.

Targeted traffic is really the key to nearly every successful website. If your site is about boiling eggs and you are getting visits from people looking for information on easter eggs you are not going to be very successful. For your site to work you are going to have to target people who want to boil eggs.

As you can see, making a profitable websites requires many elements of forethought in order to be successful. However, if you are willing to work hard there is no reason that you can not join the thousands of people who make their living owning websites.
