I just watched an interview that Matt Cutts of Google did with USA Today. In it, he said that building a website that gets noticed by Google is actually pretty simple, and boils down to common sense.
First of all, you need to have good content on your website. Content is what visitors are looking for. Google is looking to please their visitors, and therefore look for websites that have good original content.
Matt Cutts also states that a website's title tag is very important to Google. A title tag is the first thing people see when they search for terms in a search engine. The title tag should be relevant to the content that is on the page in order to attract the right kind of visitors.
Cutts later mentioned that the meta description is quite important for gaining rankings in Google. The meta description usually appears immediately below the title tag in search results. It should have a good summary of what your website is about and include any keywords you want to target with the page.
As most people already know, Matt Cutts also stated that having many backlinks to your website is very important to Google. Backlinks show that other established websites think your site is important. This is one of the largest factors in the Google ranking system.
Other factors that help in Google rankings include, but are not limited building a blog, posting on social media sites and making your sites friendly to the users.
Building websites and getting traffic is not as difficult as many people make it out to be. A little common sense and a lot of hard work goes a long way in building a successful online business.
