Before you jump right in and start to build your first website you need to have some idea of exactly what you want to achieve. By taking a look at some existing websites, you will see ideas that you never would have thought of.

So you're thinking of building yourself a website. Before you even start to think about codes, and all the other stuff that goes into putting a site together, it's a good idea to have some sort of picture in mind as to what you want to achieve; with some sort of goal in mind you'll find it easier to get your site off the ground.
How do you go about this?
Well it helps heaps if you take a look around the web and explore other people's sites and what they have done with theirs.
I'm pretty sure that you have surfed the web already, but did you really take the time to really examine the types of websites in existence? Maybe you were just browsing around in cyberspace, looking for games, downloads, free stuff etc. Before you go any further in your adventure perhaps it might be an idea if you were to take a look around now. Have some sort of aim in mind, and perhaps even take a few notes about the amazing stuff that you are sure to stumble on to. It may well surprise you. You'll come up with ideas that you'd never even thought of.
To start with just take a look at the basic design of some sites. Notice where the images are placed coupled with the position of the text. I'm sure you're getting a few interesting ideas already. See how the navigation bars are set up. Some are just made up of text while others go for buttons in all shapes, sizes and colours. The choices of different affects that can be achieved are endless. Follow the navigation bars by clicking on them, notice where they take you to. Doing this will give you an some idea of how sites are put together.
On Some websites you'll find have lots of images, some, lots of text with hardly any images at all. If you've already some theme in your mind's eye, that you'd like to use, then spend some time at sites with similar themes and ideas to what you have in mind and compare them.
The different types of websites you will find and how they are being used will be endless.
You'll find lots of small business sites. In this day and age a website can make or break a small business and make all the difference to its success or failure. Hundreds of small businesses are setting up new websites every day. They realize that if they don't get into the action now, tomorrow may be too late and then they'll be at a disadvantage to their competitors who have already taken the time to get websites up and running and bringing in customers.
As well as small business you'll find Clubs and organizations showcasing their wares, seeking new members and advertising upcoming venues, special events etc. What easier way is there to do this and get it put in front of millions of people globally, than to get a website online?
You'll find sites for professionals creating a profile and giving information on their particular specialities and services. What an exciting world! And you are about to take your first baby steps into the unknown. Well unknown for now but I'm sure with a little experience and effort on your part you'll soon be right up there with them, pronouncing your particular message to a waiting world.
