Increasing your website conversion rate often isn't as hard as it may seem. Plus it's something that every website owner should focus on as it will increase your return on investment dramatically. Instead of having to go out and find new traffic all the time it means you can achieve more with your current level of traffic.
It's like a regular business where most business owners focus on trying to find new customers. Little do they realize if they just spent more time looking after the clients they already have their business would grow a lot faster. In fact it's been reported to be 6 to 10 times easier to sell to existing clients.
While it's not quite the same with your existing website traffic, unless they've already bought something from you, they still need to be valued. Every visitor to your website is not just a visitor but a person who might buy your products or services. When you view your website traffic statistics like this the entire game changes.
That's why you want to increase our website conversion rate before running out to find new traffic. If 100 people visited your store and you only turned 1 or 2 of them into clients you'd be pretty disappointed (to put it lightly). So why accept those figures on your website?
How do we increase website conversion rate?
I apply what I call the 6 components of selling to every website I work on. Over the years I've learned this valuable information from millionaire direct response and internet marketers who have proven time and time again how effective they can be. The components are as follows:
1. Get attention with a strong headline
2. Explain the benefits
3. Make an irresistible offer
4. Back it up with proof
5. Take away their risk
6. Make a call to action
Most websites lack a strong headline to begin with. They have nothing that makes a website visitor stop their browsing and pay attention. You lose a large amount of your traffic for this one reason.
A lot of businesses online also fail to explain why their products and services are different. They have generic text that makes them look the same as every other business. Ensure your business has a clear competitive advantage.
The third step is to make an irresistible offer to your visitors. You need to give them an incredible offer that makes them sit up and take action now. Make your offer so incredible that they would have to be an idiot not to take you up on it.
Then support your offer and business with proof showing why they should trust you. Remember the internet is a big scary place and visitors want to feel safe buying from you. At the very least you should have testimonials from other clients.
Risk reversal simply means you try to minimize the visitor's risk when taking action. If you can offer no money down and an ironclad guarantee then they're more likely to accept your offer. This can also form part of your competitive advantage.
Finally you need to make a clear call to action. Too many websites fail to ask visitors to commit to making the purchase. You need a reason for them to take action right now or they might miss out forever.
There's no need to reinvent the wheel
As I mentioned before these principles have been around for decades since direct response mailing was created. But for some reason not many people use them on the internet. It seems many business owners treat the internet as some wonderful new medium where none of the old rules of selling apply.
There may be differences but you'll find that most of the rules stay the same except for a few minor tweaks. For example the internet gives us the chance to build a relationship with visitors through email and social media. Something direct response marketers never had the luxury of and a huge advantage for us.
Because of this relationship building we also don't need to be as hardcore in our selling attempts. We don't need to beat visitors over the head until they buy. But we still have to follow the principles and ask for the sale.
The bottom line
The internet has given us the opportunity to reach a much wider market for a very low cost. The business owners that take advantage of this opportunity and build solid online businesses will make millions. Thanks to this I believe there's been no better time to be in business and we should be making the most of it while we have the chance.
Because as competition becomes fiercer it'll be harder to make our business stand out. Those that move now will grab the market share and if they do it well they'll be able to hold onto it for a long time to come. That's why you need to get out there and start perfecting your online marketing strategy right now.
It starts with ensuring your website conversion rate is as high as possible. So go and take a look at your website right now, apply the principles we've talked about and measure the results. I promise you won't be disappointed.
