Frequently I hear of people that want to build up their own online businesses and they say that they are working on their web site. They don't know when they consider it will be ready to publish online, but their concept is that their own great interest. Their one and only web site ambition will only need hard work and dedication and that as long as they give it that, they are bound to succeed.
Maybe, that would have been the case when the internet was started but nowadays there are a great many factors other than sheer quality of content that will make or break a web site, and even if you gain a lot of traffic, more than an in depth knowledge of just your subject will be needed in order to make money from your visitors.
I guess that I was also of a similar view about creating the perfect site when I created my first site. I still have that site, and it earns me a few dollars a week, but I now know that the subject area I chose for that first site is one of the most highly competitive areas of the internet, and after 5 years of continual promotion the earnings really do not reflect the effort involved.
However, it took my disappointment with that first site to make me humble enough to realize that I did not know it all. I did not know how to avoid wasting my time making sites in low profit and highly competitive subject areas, and it took me a long while to recognise that I would need help.
That is when I bought a course on how to find profitable niche subjects, more particularly specific keywords which hold an advertising value but for which few people have created web pages, and furthermore where those web pages were not already highly optimized for the main search engines making it hard to gain visibility and traffic despite low number of competing pages.
There are many of these courses available nowadays and free methods available to find those magic niches where time spent will actually bring recognizable benefits in a reasonable time span. If you have not already studied Niche Website Marketing you probably should, so make your choice of course carefully and get started.
Get yourself some web hosting space, and try out some niches with web sites starting with only 5 to a dozen pages (usually original articles) and that way you will be taking the multiple profit route by having multiple sites about multiple subjects. Don't stop there though, you should diversify your money making from the sites you make as much as you can, and that way you WILL over a matter of some weeks or months, hit upon money making keywords, in subject areas which interest you.
Good money making sources to use from the start are pay-per-click (PPC) advertising using Google Adsense and the Yahoo, and MSN, equivalents, Amazon affiliate advertising, and Ebay partner auction listings. The other highly popular affiliate sites to open accounts with at an early stage are Clickbank and PaydotCom for high return affiliate sales from your web sites.
