Your main online dating photo is the most important part of your online dating ad or profile. Most women will look at that photo and decide whether or not they should click on it to view the rest of your pictures and your written profile.

#1- Posting Pictures That Lack Variety
Instead of posting online dating pictures that look alike due to content of the photo, the clothing worn, who is in it or what you are doing in the shots- use a variety of pictures. Start with a great head shot (main photo) of you, a full body shot, and one or more pictures of you doing at least one activity that is referenced in your written dating profile. Avoid using photos that look very similar as they can get boring. I have witnessed dating profiles where all the pictures were with friends, pets, kids, or wearing the same clothes. Mix it up a bit to make viewing your pictures more interesting.

#2- Displaying Pictures Where You Are Cozy with Women
If you display pictures of yourself posing with the Hooters girls, an ex-girlfriend, your sister, female cousin or someone who is just a female friend, some women may be turned off-even if you post a disclaimer in the photo caption or in your profile, so avoid it. Most women will check out your photos first before reading anything, so keep them focused on you instead. You may feel that this helps ward off the jealous type of women and not understand what the big deal is to women. However you may come across as a player to the women who are not the jealous type, but want to date someone exclusively. So as a general rule, crop the other women out of your online dating photo life.

#3- Muscle-flexing, Partying Like a Rock Star, Posing in Bed, Etc.
If you want to attract a quality date, then most of your photos should portray yourself as a mature, responsible person who is looking for someone for what women call "the right reasons." Posing like a shirtless body-builder (unless you are one), displaying a table full of empty beer bottles as you drink the last one or laying down in between the sheets in bed with a sultry look on your face, are some common turn-offs for many women. So, be cautious when you select your profile pix, to ensure that you give the right message about who you are.

#4- Taking a Picture of Yourself in the Mirror with Your Cell Phone
Instead of taking a picture of yourself in a mirror, ask someone else to take your picture, or use a digital camera on a tripod that has a timer. Pictures taken in front of the mirror do not usually do the poser justice. If you feel awkward about asking a friend or family member, you can always ask a stranger to take your picture or go to a photographer and get some professional shots.

#5- Posting Unflattering Photos From Your Worst Angle
If you are like most people, chances are that your face and body will look better from certain angles. Therefore, take a variety of dating photos to determine which ones are most flattering to you. Only use your best photos. If you are not sure, ask a friend or consult a dating profile coach. When posing for your head shot for your main dating profile image- take multiple pictures from the front and with your head slightly tilted to the right and then to the left. An easy way to capture the angled shots and make them still look natural is to look and turn your head 30-45 degrees to your left and while keeping your head there, bring your eyes back to the camera. If you post a great shot and it is followed by a shot that makes you appear less attractive, you may lose your viewer.
