This is a problem for lots of women because men are naturally quiet; they prefer to keep to themselves and generally don't like to say much. So why do they talk so much with their friends? The thing is that guys always share interests with their friends. All guys have interests and love to talk about them - they're just shy and worried that you think it's all boring! Men like talking just as much as women do, but they like to stick to certain topics. If you can find out what a guy's interested in, he'll start talking. Be careful though: once you get him started, he may never stop! So how do you find out what he's interested in? Here are some ideas:
1. He's wearing his favourite team's jacket This one's easy. If you know the team well, you can get a dialog going right away. Otherwise, you could ask him about how the team's doing or whether he was at the game last week. Don't be afraid to ask stupid questions, he'll enjoy the opportunity to preach his passion. If his team is having a bad season, why not make a joke at his expense? Guys love to bond through humor and it's a good ice-breaker.
2. Ask him about his weekend Guys do most of their interesting stuff on weekends. While you're sleeping in, he's off surfing or fixing his car. Ask him if he does his hobby every weekend - maybe you could join him next time?
3. Talk about recent events Did you hear about that new world record that was broken? Did you know this is the hottest year on record? Get a conversation started on things you've overheard on the news and you can get an insight into his thoughts.
4. Sunburn / injuries These are easy to see and often have interesting explanations... Sunburn means a day at the beach or on the field, either way you've got something to talk about. Injuries could mean a sporting mishap or a miraculous survival story. Guys love to exaggerate and ad-lib their personal experiences... just go along with it and act impressed!
5. Mention your own interests! This is probably the most successful of the five. BRIEFLY mention any hobbies or interests that you have and see how he responds. If there's anything you have in common, he's jump right in with his own ideas. Don't go overboard though; if he's not interested in shopping, don't go on and on about those gorgeous shoes you bought last weekend!
